Joanie's paintings are expressive oils on canvas infused with energy and texture, they push the seemingly realistic subject matter towards abstraction - an abandoned building, a summer storm, a red dress. Her work is vibrant and atmospheric and is many times inspired by her Berkshire County surroundings.

"Painting allows me to share my passion for color, which is esssential to my imagery. My work focuses on light, texture and composition to create both abstract and realistic images of dramatic landscapes, open skies and intricate objects found all around us."

Trained in fine arts, graphics and textile design, Joan has explored the use of various mediums. Joanie takes her inspiration from scenes in everyday life. Her brilliant use of simple images and powerful interplay of light convey stillness and breathtaking beauty. Currently she uses a technique of oil sticks, oil paints and brushes on canvas or board to create paintings that express and share her passion for color.

Joan received a BFA in Visual Design from Southeastern Massachusetts University. She has worked as a textile and wall covering designer for numerous national brands.

Joanie's work is currently available from her summer gallery in Lenox, MA or directly from her studio throughout the year. Joanie's work has been published and collected in the United States and internationally.

Vibrant color, strong light, quiet beauty. These are the common threads that I'm drawn to for my subject matter. Browse my site, stop by my Lenox gallery (June-October) or make arrangements to visit my studio in the Berkshires of Western, Massachusetts.
